What is the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD)?
MACD is the gap between a fast and a slow exponential moving average (12 and 26 periods by default). A signal line, a 9-period average of that gap, is drawn next to it, and the histogram shows the distance between the two.
How it is usually read
The MACD line crossing above its signal line is commonly watched as a sign of rising momentum, and crossing below it as fading momentum. A cross of the zero line is read as a change in the direction of the trend.
